Irish Eyes are smiling this weekend and Denver is an awesome place to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. We boast the largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade west of the Mississippi, and this year the party extends for four full days and nights until the actual holiday on Tuesday. Here’s a list things to do to celebrate shamrocks and leprechauns.

The fourth annual Saint Patrick’s Day Street Party is going down at Dougherty’s Irish Pub {5 East Ellsworth Avenue, Denver; 303.777.5210} on Saturday, March 14 starting at 10am. Live music with Sevenity, The Workshy, and RTH Entertainment, also featuring step dancers from the Bennett School of Irish Dancing and bagpipers from the Colorado Emerald Society Pipes and Drums! Food and drink specials available all day long. Come back on Sunday the 15th for a hangover-curing Irish brunch.

ViewHouse {2015 Market Street, Denver; 720.878.2105 and 7101 South Clinton Street, Centennial; 303.790.8439} is extending the celebrations over all four days. At the Ballpark location, expect live bands, DJs, and giveaways alongside bagpipes and Irish dancers. Down south at the Centennial venue, Irish dancers tap it out alongside an appearance by a real leprechaun and pot of gold raffle. Both locations will be offering fresh takes on traditional cuisine for the Irish Weekend (Thursday through Tuesday), including a Guinness-Irish Cheddar Soup with Irish soda bread and a Lamb Shepherd’s Pie, featuring Colorado lamb and a white cheddar potato crust.

Cherry Cricket {2641 East 2nd Avenue, Denver; 303.322.7666} will kick off its St. Patrick’s s Day menu on Saturday, March 14 with Corned Beef and Cabbage and an Irish Mushroom Soup. They will also have live Irish music entertainment with different bands starting at 1pm with the Colorado Youth Pipe Band, Conivan at 3pm, Celtic Steps Dancers at 4pm, Centennial State Bag Pipes & Drums at 5pm, and the Denver and District Bag Pipes, Drums & Dancers at 7pm and 9pm. On Tuesday, March 17, Cherry Cricket will serve up the Corned Beef and Cabbage and their Irish Beef Stew, made with Guinness. Entertainment with Denver & District Bag Pipes, Drums & Dancers will be at 4pm and 6pm, and Conivan will perform at 8pm and 10pm.

Blackbelly Market {1606 Conestoga #3, Boulder; 303.247.1000} pays homage to Ireland on March 17 with a focus on what they do best: meat. House-corned beef and cider brined cabbage are Executive Chef Hosea Rosenerg’s calling card on St. Patty’s day, prepared simply and rustically for dinner. Blackbelly’s corned beef and pastrami take center stage on the house special Reuben Sandwich, some say the best way to enjoy Irish corned beef. It’s available piled high every day at lunchtime.

Blackbird {305 South Downing Street, Denver; 303.733.3923} is hosting a communal dinner on Tuesday, March 17 perfect for a family celebration. They are putting on an Irish feast featuring traditional Irish Lamb Stew, Shepherd’s Pie, and Bailey’s Irish Cream Cheesecake at $30 for adults and $15 for children. Beer and whiskey pairings are also available.

From now through St. Patrick’s Day, The Thirsty Lion Gastropub {1605 Wynkoop Street, Denver; 303.623.0316} is kicking off St. Patrick’s Day festivities with a special Irish menu. They have Irish meal specials that leprechauns can love like Bacon Cheddar Potato Cakes, Corned Beef Mac and Cheese, Irish Lamb Burgers, and Jameson Bing Cherry Bread Pudding. In addition to its 52 beers on tap the Thirsty Lion is also offering some great drink specials including St. Patrick’s Day Beer Flights, a Colorado Black & Tan Beer (with Guinness and Oscar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale) and an Irish Mule, Nutty Irishman, and Bailey’s Irishman.

Learn to cook Irish classics with beer at Cook Street School of Culinary Arts {1937 Market Street, Denver; 303.308.9300} on Tuesday, March 17 from 6-9:30pm. Learn how to make Pan-Seared Scallops with morels, cream, and fresh herbs; Country-Style Lamb, Cheddar, and Ale Pie; Fresh Cabbage Salad with whole grain mustard vinaigrette, crème fraîche, and pickled shallots; and finish with Guinness Ice Cream with toasted Barmbrack and Irish whiskey caramel. Enjoy the meal you helped prepare at the end of class along with a selection of beers. $89 per person.

Session Kitchen {1518 South Pearl Street, Denver; 720.763.3387} in the historic Platt Park neighborhood, will celebrate the Irish holiday with a special dish of Corned Beef and Cabbage Buns. These tasty items are similar to the ever-popular Brisket Buns from Session Kitchen’s regular menu. The featured St. Patrick’s Day dish will be available from Friday, March 13 through Tuesday, March 17.
In the Baker neighborhood, Punch Bowl Social {65 Broadway, Denver; 303.765.2695} is offering both food and drinks to share the Irish Luck. On Tuesday, March 17, try a $5 Guinness, Car Bomb, or Jameson and $2 Bud Light drafts. You’ll probably need some food to go along with those beverages so Punch Bowl Social’s Chef Grimm, who is also a first generation Irish-American, has created a traditional Dublin Coddle–a stew with rashers (aka Irish bacon), bangers, onions, Yukon potatoes, and carrots, as well as a special Irish Porridge with steel-cut oats, apples, brown sugar, and peach cobbler.

Racines {650 Sherman Street, Denver; 303.595.0418} joins the St. Patrick’s Day celebration for 2015 with creative menu and bar items for lunch, dinner, and brunch available in time for the St. Patrick’s Parade on Saturday, March 14 and again on St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17. Lunch and dinner menus will feature both Steak and Guinness Pie (get the recipe for it here!) and Corned Beef with Cabbage. Brunch on the 14th and breakfast on the 17th will feature Corned Beef Benedict and Car Bomb Pancakes. Irish libations pour from the bar, including the Dew Drop with Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlua, Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey, and coffee topped with fresh whipped cream and crème de menthe. A Racine’s Irish Coffee and Irish Eyes will join Guinness stout and Murphy’s Irish stout at the bar.

On Tuesday, March 17, head over to the recently opened Stout Street Social {1400 Stout Street, Denver; 720.214.9100} to try some Irish Point Oysters with the traditional Irish drink of Guinness. Celebrate the day with a half dozen of these unique oysters plus a pint of Guinness for $20.
And whether you’re recovering from Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities or gearing up for Tuesday’s fun, Jill’s Restaurant & Bistro {900 Walnut Street; 720.406.7399} is hosting brunch on Sunday, March 15 brunch between 10am and noon. The menu will feature a gourmet buffet of traditional Irish cuisine, including Gin Cured Irish Salmon, Brown Ale Braised Lamb Shank, Corned Beef Brisket and Cabbage, as well as traditional brunch dishes with an Irish twist. For $41.95 per adult and $19.95 per child, guests will also enjoy bottomless Green Beer, Sparkling Wine, Bloody Marys, Mimosas, soft drinks, and coffee.

Come in any day this month and benefit from Argyll’s expertise as you enjoy a carefully combined flight of Irish whiskies, complete with explanations and descriptions, beautifully served on a wooden tray. Hungry? In addition to the town’s best Celtic-flavored regular menu items, Argyll’s is offering a Corned Beef and Cabbage special for the saint’s day, as well as on Parade Day (Saturday, March 14). The traditional dish will also feature the rustic housemade mustard and Irish soda bread studded with currants. In addition to the usual suspects behind the bar, Argyll will offer a version of the traditional Tipperary cocktail, with green chartreuse and Irish whiskey.
